Why Inboxes Need Extra Proof
DKIM email authentication gives a mailbox a way to prove a note came from your domain. Crooks copy From lines with ease. Therefore, big inboxes look for extra proof. This check adds a signed stamp to mail you send. You keep one key private on your server. Additionally, you publish the other key in DNS. Receivers then test the stamp. Consequently, altered mail fails the test. Skip this check and more mail may land in spam. Therefore, brands treat it as a basic step.
How The Check Works
Your mail host builds a short hash of the body and key headers. Then it signs that hash with the private key. DKIM email authentication works because the public key lives in DNS. For example, Gmail later reads that key and tests the stamp. It rebuilds the hash and checks the match. However, a fail does not always block the note. Many hosts still deliver it and log the result. Meanwhile, a pass lifts trust and helps inbox placement. Forwarding can break the stamp in some cases. However, many modern hosts still pass the check after a forward.
Easy Steps To Turn It On
Ask your mail host to make a key pair. Next, add a TXT record that holds the public key. Name it with a selector such as s1._domainkey. Therefore, you can swap keys later with little pain. Send a test note and run a free checker. Additionally, store the private key in a safe place. Do not share it in tickets or chat.
Pair It With Other Tools
DKIM email authentication does not stop every fake sender on its own. SPF lists which servers may send for you. DMARC tells hosts what to do after a fail. For example, shops use all three to cut fake invoices. Consequently, staff see fewer phony reset mails. Start with watch mode on DMARC. Then tighten the rule once reports look clean. Review reports each month. Fix gaps when a vendor sends without a pass.
